TODAY IS THE DAY!
Not only is today the two week anniversary of Wilson's stroke, but it is also the day that he will be released from the hospital.
This whole journey has been one of strong emotions and complete divine provision. The Campoverde family can only rest in the fact that God was in complete and total control of the situation and is using this for His glory! Every time a family member shares what God has done in Wilson's life over the past couple of weeks, words are not enough to express the joy, preace, gratitude, love, and faith that has resulted from the Lord's hand being over this situation.
Please continue to pray for the continued healing of Wilson's body. The Campoverde family has a long road to recovery before them. However, they know that they do not walk this road alone. God walks alongside them.
Also, as Wilson returns home, please keep all phone calls to the house at a minimum. Wilson will probably be on his computer as soon as he can, but we don't want him to exert himself any more than necessary. In the days and weeks to come, he'll be back. The family just asks for a little more patience in waiting for his return.
Thanks again! God bless!

Update - April 28, 2010
The Campoverde Family continues to praise the Lord for his provision in Wilson's recovery.
Today, Wilson walked twice. The first time, Wilson made it all the way to the nurse's station but had to be taken back to his room because he overdid it. However, the second time, Wilson walked to the door and back to his bed all by himself. The Lord is continually supporting Wilson and giving him strength to recover.
Another milestone in Wilson's recovery is that he took a shower today. After showering, Wilson was shivering. Joy asked him if he was cold, and his reply was that he was excited that he had been able to shower. How often do we take for granted the simple things in life, like showering?
The Campoverdes continue to ask for prayer over Wilson's recovery. The trees are being spaced further apart as the Lord leads the Campoverdes out of the proverbial woods that Joy is so fond of talking about.
Thank you for your continued support,

Lunes/martes

Update - April 26, 2010
Praise be to God! He is so great, and His love endures forever.
Today, the Lord is continuing to bless Wilson with healing. Wilson walked today for the first time since his surgery. While he did need the help of a physical therapist, he was still able to get out of bed and move. This means he is one step closer to being able to go home and one step closer to being fully recovered. The Campoverde family praise God for his healing.
However, Wilson is still weak from everything that has happened and all the medications he has been on. He is weaker on his body's right side than on the left side, and he will continue to work towards regaining that strength. Please, be praying that God would help him along and give Wilson His strength.
Other than that, there isn't much to say. The Lord is still working through this event, bringing His Name glory. However, the Campoverdes know that they might never see the fruit of this event and the way the Lord has healed Wilson. God is good, though, and His promises are life-giving and sustaining.
Once again thanks to the Lord and to our brothers and sisters,
The Campoverde Family

Update - April 25
Today will be Wilson's first full day out of intensive care, and for that the Campoverdes are thankful. Yesterday, Wilson was moved out of ICU and into a normal room. This movig was a total answer to prayer.
This morning Wilson enjoyed a breakfast taco and a Diet Dr. Pepper, his first "real" food since the aneurysm. He is sitting out of bed and progressing daily in his recovery. Continue to pray for the family as Wilson is not out of the hospital yet. Being out of ICU is a great thing though.

Update - April 24, 2010
Praise be to God for His provision. Today was another miracle in Wilson's progress.
The doctors today took out some of the monitors they had in Wilson. The sensors monitoring Wilson's blood and brain pressures were removed today. Also, the IV that was feeding Wilson was turned off today.
The Lord has been such a provider and a healer in everything.
Also, the family wants to give thanks for Steven's getting his driving learner's permit. The streets of the Rio Grande Valley may have gotten more dangerous as a result, but the family is so glad to celebrate this big moment in Steven's life.

Novedades;

Update - April 23, 2010
Good morning! The Lord has continued to bless the Campoverde family as the days go by. There isn't much to update today, but the family just wanted to let you know what is happening post-surgery.
Wilson is doing well after his surgery. He was a little hungry today and was able to have some jello, which he enjoyed. The doctor came to visit Wilson today and tested his brain function. His speech and his extremities are normal, which is such a blessing after brain surgery.
Wilson continues to be in ICU. His head is bandaged, and he is resting comfortably. The family's next goal is to have him moved to a normal room, so he will be able to have visitors.
The Campoverdes are just so grateful for the prayers and encouragement they have received from all around the world.
Have a blessed day!

Día de Cirugía – 22 de abril
Gracias a Dios!

Surgery update - April 22
Praise the Lord! Wilson's surgery went well. There weren't any complications, and the neurosurgeon was able to clip the aneurysm. Wilson will be in the ICU for the next couple of days. Then, Lord willing, he will be in a regular hospital room. If all goes well, Wilson will be out of the hospital by this time next week.
Brothers and sisters, the Lord has shown us again just how mighty He is. Let us give thanks for His provisions in this time.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the support and encouragement they have received this week from the body of Christ all around the world. The Word says that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much, and the Campoverde family is thankful for all of the prayers that have been prayed for Wilson since Friday.
As Joy is fond of saying, "We're not out of the woods yet," but the best thing about those woods is that The Lord has the Campoverdes by the hand and is leading them to green pastures.
Thanks so much again,
The Campoverdes

Psalm 27:14
Good Afternoon all!!!
There is not much news to report. We will confirm that surgery has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. He was put on the schedule today. His blood pressure and blood sugar have remained stable. Thank you for your prayers.
Wilson continues to eat solid food, if only a little bit. The room is quiet with the doors closed and lights off. Some of the cards and emails that have been sent are sitting up on the window sill for decoration.
Gloria is back in ICU!!! But she has not been reassigned to Wilson. We are thankful for Christy and her joyful spririt. She has been very gracious and answered many of Joy and Wilson's questions. Continue to pray for all the hospital staff that the Campoverde Family is meeting and dealing with on a daily basis. It is their desire that other's would see the Lord in them even in this difficult time.
After midnight tonight Wilson will not be able to eat solid foods until surgery. They have given the family a small timeline of what can be expected. After surgery another two days of ICU and then hopefully a general room. The doctor likes to have him patients home as soon as possible after surgery to continue with rehabilitation.
Once we have confirmation of the surgery time we will let you know so that you can join us in prayer. The family continues to ask that visitors wait until after the surgery to visit. Please be in prayer from your homes and work!
Joy has said that after the surgery the visitors can pour!!! Thank you for your continued patience in this regard.
The family would like to share a scripture with you as we all continue to wait on the Lord and trust in his plans and his timing: Psalm 27:14. If you have an opportunity to read it today please be encouraged!!!

His Snoring Never Sounded So Good
Buenos Dias a todos!!! New day with new news for all of us.
The doctor has had a chance to review all the pictures that were taken yesterday. He did find an anuerysm in the back of Wilson's head. He will require surgery to contain the anuerysm. BUT right now surgery is not an immediate option.
Like we mentioned before Wilson's blood pressure and blood sugar levels must decrease before surgery can be performed and remain stable. Right now his BP is sitting at 130. The nurse has advised that the want it below 130 and higher than 115 for a consistent amount of time. Earlier this morning he was sitting around 147. They have given him some insulin to help with his blood surgar levels. Right now he is over 200. He needs to be under 200!
He is spending most of him time resting. He is still eating solid food and drinking on his own. Joy and Tirsa were with him this morning while he ate his breakfast.
He's not very talkative today because of the medications. His doctor has advised that by tonight they hope to see him more awake and alert so that neurological exams can be done. The nurse has told him she wants to see his eyes open. We are not sure at this point whether the affect the condition is having on his brain is causing the sleepiness or if its the morphine they gave him yesterday, or the high blood sugar.
He's snoring away. Joy commented that his snoring never sounded so good. It's just as loud as always.
He has a new nurse, Christy. We miss Gloria but know that she has been impacted by what the Lord is doing here. Keep Christy in your prayers.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Pray for all of the above. If he meets the criteria, the surgery could happen Thursday but that is tentative at this point.

Prayer Requests: 4/19/10
As news and treatment for today ends, we would like to extend some prayer requests to you our family.
Joy has advised that the neuro treating Wilson is looking for four specific things in order to perform the expected surgery:
1) Lowered blood pressure
2) Absorption of the blood in his brain
3) Decreased swelling of the brain
4) For Wilson to no longer have a headache
He will not be able to perform surgery until these conditions are met. The Lord is daily doing miracles with his body and with the family. Once again, many many thanks for your interest and prayers.
The Lord has ordained each and every one of you for this season in the lives of the Campoverde Family. Perhaps you are extrememly close to Wilson, Joy, Steven, Tirsa, or Jonathan and dont know any of the other family members but rest assured that every moment you share with any one of them is appointed by Him.
Please continue to encourage Joy and Wilson both as a couple and individuals. Pray for physical, emotional and spiritual rest for Joy. Steven will need focus and determination to remain consistent in school this week. Jonathan and his friend Mike (for who the family is extremely grateful!!) are now back in College Station and will continue their studies as well. Jonathan has an exam tomorrow that he is looking to prepare for. Tirsa has been blessed to work for an organization that is flexible and supportive during this time and will be able to remain in Mission for the week. Each one of the family members is thankful for each one of you!!!
May the Lord bless and keep each one of you as you walk with him daily and may he watch over your families even as he watches over the Campoverde Family.
Our God is the God who provides.

Another day of treatment is winding down. Thank you are all very much for your support and encouragements and prayers. We'd like to ask again that you do not contact the family directly. Joy is spending her time with Wilson and has been asked to not answer the phone while she is with him so that she can focus on him. Many of you have contacted the house phone. Please understand that the family is likely not home and will not be able to answer the phone. You are welcome to leave messages!
The family will continue to update the blog as much as possible. Apologies that the posts so far have not been in Spanish as well as English. We are working on getting that straightened out!!
If you would like to call someone for information.
For English contact Laura Benavides 956/266/5910

Angiogram update
This morning Wilson went into surgery and it went well. The doctors spent 2-3 hours taking pictures. They took over 500 and will be reviewing them for the rest of the day. Therefore, we'll know more about Wilson's progress some time tomorrow. However, Wilson has to remain calm and still for the next 8 hours or so. He will not be able to receive visitors for the rest of the day. Thanks for continuing to pray and for understanding the situation.
Thanks again and God bless!

Update: April 18/19
Sunday was another day of progress. Wilson was able to get out of his bed and walk around. He was able to sit in a chair outside of his bed by himself. He could talk in English and in Spanish. He was eating soft foods. He saw a lot of people that day, members of his churches, and his children. However, he must have had a little too much excitement because he had a little mishap last night from all of the effort it took to see all those people. Joy has continued to be at the hospital with him through this entire ordeal. Jonathan returns to school this morning, driving up to College Station. Steven also returned to school today. Tirsa will remain at home, helping Joy take care of Steven all of the other things that need to be done.
On the morning of the 19th, Wilson was being taken in for an angiogram. The doctors hope to give the family more information after seeing what the veins and arteries look like in Wilson's brain. Please be praying for healing and another miracle to happen in the healing of that area of Wilson's body. The Lord is Jehovah Rapha. He is my healer. We have faith that He will work for His glory.
Here are some things we ask for those of you who want to see Mr. Campoverde. Please, do not come to the hospital. If he knows you are in the waiting room, he gets frustrated that he can't see you. This frustration raises his blood pressure and could lead to another aneurysm.
Also, if you have any questions about helping out the family in any way, feel free to comment on this blog. The blogmaster will receive an email notifying him of the comment, and he can notify the family. The Campoverde family asks that you please not call Joy or Wilson's cell phone numbers as they need to keep those lines open for family who is calling internationally. Also, be looking for a link to a website where you can log in and sign up for meals to prepare for the family. We are still looking into all of these options. If you want to call someone, please call 956-266-5910. That number is for Laura Benavides, a family friend. She will have more information as the days go by and will be in contact with the family.
God is working a miracle, and we are resting in Him to bring Wilson to full health.
Thanks and God bless!
Background: For the new people.
Howdy! And welcome to the new blog for updates on the progress of Wilson Campoverde.
Today has a lot of things going on, and for those of you just joining the story, I feel the need to give you a little background.
On Friday, April 16, Wilson had a massive aneurysm. He was getting out of the shower and drying off when he felt a hammer hit the front of his head. Then, he passed out. A few seconds later, he woke up again, called my mom to tell her he was dying, and he called 911. On the phone with 911, my father was able to tell them where he lived, repeating the address a second time for the operator. Then, he passed out again. Wilson came to when the EMTs arrived in our house, and he was awake as they pulled him out on a stretcher, which was when Joy arrived home to see him there. However, at that moment, when he tried to speak, he wasn't making any sense.
When Joy arrived at the hospital, she found Wilson in the ER, and he was in bad shape. The doctors did a CT scan to see the extent of the damage. Also, they suggested that he be intubated in order to protect his airway. This intubation meant he would be sedated in order to keep him from battling against the tube. Before my dad went under, he turned to Joy and said, "Joy, I love you. I love the kids, and I know where I'm going." This was Friday right around noon.
The results of that CT scan were not good. The doctors were only giving us a 5% chance that he would live through that night, meaning there was a 95% chance that he would die. Joy quickly called Tirsa and Jonathan, who no longer live in the Valley due to work and to school, and the two of them were on their way home. Tirsa took a plane. Jonathan drove. Steven, the third Campoverde child, was at school when everything happened, and he was informed when his grandparents picked him up from school. However, none of the kids arrived at the hospital in time that night to see their father awake. He was sedated, and while the doctors said he could hear them, he couldn't respond. Friday night, the Campoverdes slept with anticipation. Joy stayed at the hospital with Wilson. The kids were at home.
Saturday morning, Joy's parents came to the hospital to bring her some breakfast. She wanted to eat it in the ICU room where Wilson was in bed. However, the nurse said that she couldn't, so her mother Shirley said she would stay in the room while Joy went into the waiting room to eat. Wilson's nurse Gloria had been thinking about my dad all night, and as an ICU nurse has some powers that normal nurses do not. She felt that she needed to wake Wilson up, if only to a partially sedated state. Turning down the sedation medication from 50% to 25%, Gloria and Shirley were in the room when Wilson began to wake up, and he was moving. Shirley immediately ran into the waiting room to get Joy, who immediately thought the worst, but instead she found Wilson, moving his arms and legs, desperately trying to communicate. Gloria ran and got him a pen and some paper on which he wrote, "Not dead. God wants me here. No 911. Angels."
The news spread fast of Wilson's being awake and his miraculous recovery. Throughout the course of saturday, Wilson went from being partially sedated and intubated to fully awake and breathing through a rebreather mask, pulling the tube from his throat himself. He was able to talk with his children and with a few other people as well. The doctors couldn't believe how he had progressed. They did a MRI and a MRA to find that there was no inflammation in his brain. The only possible reason was his brain had reabsorbed most of the blood, but the brain doesn't absorb blood that fast. Well, as we know, for God anything is possible.
